Why Is She Famous?

Jennifer Lopez got her big start on the TV comedy hit In Living Color as a Fly Girl, but bigger and better things were on the horizon for J. Lo as she moved onto the silver screen with blockbuster flicks like Selena (1997) and Monster-in-Law (2005). And before we could say, "Hey, who's that hot Puerto Rican chick?" Jennifer released hit album after hit album. Is there anything this girl can't do?

As for her recording career, who knew that she would become one of the most bankable artists in Sony Music history? Her debut album On the 6 went platinum after two months. On the business front, she has launched two successful clothing lines, JLO by Jennifer Lopez and Sweetface, a collection of fragrances and a Cuban restaurant called Madre's (which closed in July 2008).

Biography

Jennifer Lopez was born in New York City, on July 24, 1969. The daughter of David, a computer programmer, and Guadalupe, a kindergarten teacher, the young Lopez always dreamed of becoming a performer.

With talents in singing and dancing, Jennifer began performing in stage musicals, dancing in a European tour of Golden Musicals of Broadway, a Japanese tour of Synchronicity and local productions of Oklahoma and Jesus Christ Superstar.
